Pupil Achievement, School Improvement and Self-Evaluation

At Bickerton Holy Trinity CE Primary School, we are committed to continually evaluating and improving the education and opportunities we provide for our children.

Our evaluation of the 2025–26 School Impact Plan and Self-Evaluation shows that the school has made strong progress. Our curriculum, leadership and monitoring systems have strengthened, while safeguarding, relationships, behaviour, attendance, personal development, inclusion and Christian distinctiveness are significant strengths of the school. Our Christian vision, ‘Life in All Its Fullness’ (John 10:10), is central to school life and informs our relationships, curriculum and decision-making.

We are pleased that this improvement is increasingly evident in pupil outcomes. At the end of KS2, writing increased from 44% at the expected standard in 2025 to 68% in 2026.  Early outcomes are also positive, with 80% of Reception pupils achieving a Good Level of Development and 85.7% of Year 1 pupils achieving the expected standard in phonics. Attendance is another significant strength at 96.5%, with persistent absence at just 3%.

Academic achievement is only one aspect of our ambition for our children. Pupils benefit from a rich wider curriculum including Collective Worship, sport, music, outdoor learning, residential experiences, pupil leadership and community engagement. We are proud of our inclusive culture and the strong relationships between pupils, staff and families. Our SIAMS ‘Flourishing’ judgement provides important external recognition of the impact of our Christian vision and values on the life of the school.

We are proud of our progress but remain ambitious for every child. Our evaluation has also helped us identify clearly where further improvement is needed.

During 2026–27, our priorities will be to:

  • improve attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics, with particular attention to mathematics and combined outcomes, while sustaining the significant improvement in writing;
  • use assessment effectively to accelerate the progress of children who need additional support and provide appropriate challenge for higher attainers;
  • further strengthen curriculum assessment so that pupils know more, remember more and can apply their learning;
  • continue developing subject and middle leadership so that monitoring has a clear impact on teaching and pupil outcomes; and
  • build upon the strengths identified through SIAMS by further developing spirituality, reflection, pupil leadership and courageous advocacy.

Statutory Assessments:

At various stages in a child's learning journey through the primary years, children have to be assessed in line with government directives.

Attainment is what the pupils achieve at the end of Year 6 in Key Stage 2. We also include the attainment of the Year 1 pupils in their end of year phonics test and the attaiment of our pupils at the end of the Early Years Foundation Stage. Finally, we also share the results of our Year 4 Multiplication online check. To help put the school results in context, we always compare our attainment against National figures.
