Welcome to Foxes

Fox Class is taught by Mrs Sally Whelan and is made up of a wonderful team of kind, caring and enthusiastic Year 2 and Year 3 children.

In Fox Class, we encourage one another to be the best we can be, embrace new opportunities and grow into confident, respectful and responsible global citizens. Our Christian values of Love & Kindness, Friendship, Respect, Justice, Freedom & Responsibility and Equality are at the heart of our classroom and guide the way we learn, work and care for one another.

Learning in Year 2/3

Year 2/3 is an exciting stage in our children's learning journey, bringing together the growing confidence of Year 2 with the increasing independence and challenge of Year 3.

Our classroom is a happy, nurturing and stimulating environment where children feel safe to ask questions, try new things, make mistakes and challenge themselves. We encourage every child to become an increasingly confident, independent and enthusiastic learner.

Different Routes, One Destination

As a mixed-age class, we recognise that children may be at different stages of their learning journey. Our approach is:

Children build on their individual starting points and prior learning, with teaching carefully planned and adapted to provide the right balance of support, challenge and independence.

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced so that both Year 2 and Year 3 children develop the knowledge, vocabulary and skills appropriate to their stage of learning. At the same time, being part of a mixed-age class provides valuable opportunities for children to collaborate, share ideas and learn with and from one another.

As our Year 2 children complete Key Stage 1 and our Year 3 children begin their Key Stage 2 journey, we help every child to take increasing responsibility for their learning and develop the confidence and resilience they need for the next stage.

Bringing Learning to Life

Learning in Fox Class is brought to life through practical experiences, enquiry, discussion, creativity, outdoor learning, trips and visitors.

We encourage children to be curious, make connections, investigate ideas, solve problems and think about the “why” behind their learning.

Through our LIVE curriculum, we encourage our Foxes to become:

L – Life-Long Learners – developing knowledge, confidence and a love of learning.

I – Immersive – embracing new experiences and opportunities that bring learning to life.

V – Valuing Diversity – respecting others, celebrating difference and understanding our place in the wider world.

E – Enquiring Minds – asking questions, thinking deeply and being curious about the world around us.

Beyond the Classroom

Throughout the year, there will be lots of opportunities for children to take part in clubs, competitions, trips, special events and wider experiences, as well as opportunities to take on responsibilities and develop their skills as pupil leaders.

We encourage every child to try new things, discover their interests and talents and play an active part in the life of our school.

Homework

Children have many opportunities to practice and expand their learning at home.  Each week children will be expected to complete:

• Practise their times tables up to and including their 12’s
• Daily spelling practice (see Statutory word lists and termly spelling menus below)
• Times Table Rockstars will help with any homework related to maths and also prepare your child for the statutory multiplication test at the end of Year 4. Times Tables Rock Stars: Play
• To foster a love of reading, we encourage all pupils to take part in Strive-for-5, aiming to read at least five times a week at home. This regular reading habit strengthens fluency, comprehension, and enjoyment.
