Collective Worship

At Bickerton Holy Trinity, our daily collective worship is a cherished and central part of school life. Rooted in our Christian foundation, worship reflects our care for every member of our school community and plays a vital role in shaping our distinctive ethos.

Worship is more than a daily routine—it is a time for reflection, connection, and inspiration. It helps us live out our school vision:
“Life in all its fullness.”

We aim for every act of collective worship to be:

  • Inclusive – welcoming and meaningful for all, regardless of background or belief.

  • Invitational – offering space for personal reflection without pressure or expectation.

  • Inspirational – encouraging children and staff alike to think deeply, act kindly, and grow spiritually.

Our Worship Leads are actively involved in planning and leading worship and regular visits from Rev. Jane, who brings warmth and wisdom to our Thursday gatherings.

We believe that collective worship helps children explore their values, develop a sense of belonging, and understand how faith can guide them in everyday life.

Aims of Collective Worship

Through collective worship we aim to contribute to the spiritual, moral and religious development of the children and adults in our school by:

  • Fostering a sense of fellowship by bringing children together as a class or whole school to celebrate shared Christian values of the school and community;

  • Fostering a sense of wonder and awe at the beauty, mystery and power of the world;

  • Exploring certain ideas, activities, attitudes and feelings with a view to understanding them from a religious perspective;

  • Fostering concern for the needs of other people;

  • Providing an experience of being part of a caring community;

  • Fostering new insights about life and empathy for others.

Through collective worship we hope to give the opportunity to:

  • Reflect on our own and others’ experiences;

  • Help children and adults to find out more about themselves;

  • Learn more about the world in which we live;

  • Consider the beliefs of others and how they influence people;

  • Explore prayer;

  • Praise God;

  • Give opportunities to be still, quiet and reflective;

  • Respond to stories and music

  • Develop a caring attitude towards self and others.

Special events

The school celebrates many important events in the Christian calendar. Each year the school celebrates Harvest, Christmas and Easter as well as other events. At times of major festivals children are given opportunities to share in an act of worship at Holy Trinity Church with whom we enjoy very warm relations.

Worship Leaders

At Bickerton Holy Trinity CE Primary School, we believe in nurturing confident, compassionate leaders. Pupils in Year 6 have the special opportunity to become Worship Leaders, playing an active role in shaping and delivering our daily collective worship.

Each week, our Worship Leaders:

  • Help plan and lead worship alongside staff and clergy

  • Light the candles to mark the beginning of worship

  • Lead our welcome and closing words

  • Read our daily prayer and often write their own

  • Encourage others to contribute to our whole school prayer book

Some of these heartfelt prayers are shared with our wider community through our weekly newsletter, helping to strengthen the connection between school and home.

This role not only deepens pupils’ understanding of faith but also builds confidence, responsibility, and a sense of belonging within our Christian school family.
